  • Stands up for what he believes in
  • Has a cool grandpa story
  • Lives on the beach and cannot surf
What are you thinking about for college?
I’m probably going to go to CSU, a state school in California.

Do you surf?
Not really, I try to surf, last time I surfed, I got a huge mouthful of water and that was kind of dumb.

Have you lived at the beach your whole life?
No, I’ve lived all over the west coast, up in Oregon, Orange County, and Escondido. I’ve you have ever lived there, it’s really nice.

...it's so hard to stand up for what you know is right...
Why do you move so much?
My dad’s job has forced me to move. He’s had a bunch of jobs. He is just trying to find one that works for him. Mainly, a salesperson business, that kind of stuff.

Has that been tough moving to different schools?
Somewhat, it seems that some of the moves were tough and some were actually better. At least the last one from Escondido moved out from a little tiny school to a larger high school where you have more choices and friends and other stuff like that.

How would you describe your friends from your old school?
Well, the problem was that at my old school, there were 14 guys in my 8th grade class. So you didn’t really just choose your friends, they were the people that were just there. So if you get labeled as a loner in 4th grade, it kind of sticks with you. So I didn’t really have any friends.

Tell me about your faith journey. What brought you here to Notre Dame? Have you always been into you faith?
I’ve always somewhat been into my faith, but I’ve never really embraced it. As freshmen, I didn’t really know anybody. So I came to youth group because those were the only real friends I knew being in a new high school and a new area. In my freshman year, I got dragged to a camp and really accepted Christ in my life. It just evolved from that where I’ve never really settled for the least. The first time I heard about Notre Dame, I wanted to go really bad. Everything just kind of fell into place this year.

What’s the most difficult part about being a Christian man?
I think David Crowder said it best in his song that it’s so easy to go with the flow as a man, as a Christian, as anyone and it’s so hard to stand up for what you know is right and what you know is true. It’s not the popular thing to do. You will not get commended that often. It’s hard to stand up when you know you should for things in this world that need help, like women and stuff like that.

In ten years, when people remember you, what do you want them to remember?
I hope they can look back and remember that I was myself. I wasn’t different around different groups of people. I was authentic. And they can look back and see someone who was openly Catholic and willing to talk about it.

Do you like your toilet paper to roll over the top or to come out from underneath?
I prefer it to come out from underneath.

People find that a little bit weird, why?
I really don’t know. I think the other people are weird to like it over the top.

What’s your least favorite kind of music?
I hate rap. I think rap is horrible.

What is a funny random story about you?
My grandpa has a twin brother. And my grandpa died. And his twin’s wife also died. So my grandma married my grandpa’s twin brother. So my dad’s uncle is also his dad now. So he has an uncle daddy.

If you could meet anyone in the world, who could you meet?
Living or dead? I would have loved to meet Pope John Paul, aside from Jesus. Pope John Paul would have just been amazing to meet, even though I can’t speak Polish.

If Mark Hart and Steve Allgeyer, who would win?
I think Mark would make him laugh, so Steve would lose.
