Michelle Thompson
St. Michael the Archangel
Canton, Georgia
12th Grade

  • She has played basketball since she was in 4th grade.
  • She lives near Woodstock. (Georgia, that is)
  • She got all A's last year.
Have you thought about a college?
I want to get a scholarship for basketball. Yeah, I play all the time, but I don’t know where I want to go.

What position do you play?
Point guard.

Do you think you’ll get a scholarship?
I’ve gotten a lot of calls and stuff, so I am hoping.

...as long as I am patient, then I know that God will answer with what I need.
Have you always played basketball?
Yeah, since like 4th grade.

What’s life like in Woodstock?
Actually, I live in Canton, but our church is in Woodstock, which is a couple exits down from 575. But it’s nice. I think there are a lot of people, but I think its kind of a small town, but a lot of people there live in Cherokee County all their life and just go up there.

What’s it like being a Catholic in the south?
It’s hard because there is a lot of Southern Baptist people who are very opinionated and a lot of really big Baptist churches. They bother me. They are just so big. They don’t even have a cross in their church. Its like so small compared to how big their buildings are.

Do the different denominations just pick on you or do they just have a bunch of questions?
They don’t understand and if you try to explain it to them, they just don’t care. And so it’s like you are the only one. I mean, I wish there were more, but it’s cool because you are different and you know what you believe in.

Other than basketball, what kind of things do you like to do in your spare time?
I play that year round, so I don’t really get to do a whole lot of things. I try to stay involved in school.

Like make good grades?
Yeah, hopefully. I got all A’s this year. It’s the junior year thing, ya know.

If you could change anything about high school, what would you go back and change?
I would probably have less negativity, negative influences. Because there are a lot of things you can get wrapped up in. And especially if it was like a sibling, I have a brother who is going to be in high school next year and that sort of stuff scares me because he could be influenced by that sort of stuff.

Like drugs?
Not like drugs, like sex and how people dress and how people act. There are just some mean people and you don’t want to get involved in that kind of crowd.

What time in your life did you need God the most?
Probably right now. I am just facing like this bridge between what I need to be and what I need to do with my life. I have been thinking about it and I get confused and then I like stray and keep coming back. And when you come back you realize just how much you do need God especially right now when I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. So as long as I am patient, then I know that God will answer what I need.

What’s your favorite quote?
Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself, each day has enough trouble of its own.

What has been your most memorable experience here at Notre Dame?
Besides food, I liked Bible Study this morning, Praise and Worship, and I liked your talk and Matt’s talk.
