Why is Enzo a special name for both of us?Enzo is a special name because Enzo Ferrari started Ferrari’s and I’m a big Ferrari fan and I guess so is Matt a little bit. And Matt knows a guy that works for Mario Andretti, which is pretty sweet because I am a fan of Formula One racing.
Now is that because you are Italian?Oh, trying to pull stereotypes on me. Yes, it’s because I’m Italian. And I love Ferrari’s mainly not just because of racing but because I just really like the style. And I like the cars that they build for public appearances, stuff like that.
What’s been the most shocking part of this week?I’m around Catholics a lot, but not around Catholics that agree with everything that will really actually follow the Catholic church. And I just love seeing all of the different cultures, yet the same base principles of what we believe in when it comes to abortion, when it comes to artificial contraception, when it comes to just completely accepting life and a respect for life. I really don’t experience so much of that, so many people respecting it at the same time. I just like to know that I’m not alone. That’s probably what’s the biggest experience for me here.
I just like to know that I’m not alone.
Are you really active in Pro-life movements?Yeah, I’m involved in with Pinkey Pro-life. Pinkey is a town that’s close to mine. It was started by a 16-year-old boy to make billboards expressing pro-life views and tell people that are getting abortions to seek counseling and they have numbers on it and a picture of Jesus, so they know its Christianity that is expressing it, which is pretty awesome. And we go give “Life Talks.” We talk about artificial contraception and abortion to different churches around our diocese.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?Oh, man. Honestly, wherever God takes me. That’s really something I need to pray about. I am not sure I am being called to a religious vocation or to be married. Im not sure.
Do any of those scare you?Yes, because if I were to get married, I would be afraid that I wouldn’t be a good husband and I would still be lustful with other women. And if I were to be a priest, I feel that I wouldn’t be trying my best at all times and still there is the women aspect thing. And I just hope I’m happy in ten years.
What’s your least favorite way to pray?I have never been to a conference like this before. So I have never prayed the way we do with praise and worship. It’s a lot of fun. But I’m still more of a quiet guy; I like to pray quietly. My least favorite way to pray is probably through songs I don’t like. Its hard to pray through songs I don’t like. It’s another thing when they say that you should think about the words you are saying in the song and you shouldn’t just sing the song just because you like the song. Maybe songs in general aren’t the way I like to pray because I have to like the song. So I usually like to pray on my own, by myself.
If you could change anything about your high school to make it a more loving place, what would you do?I would definitely change the way everybody is treated. I’d like there to be more love between each other, more respect. There is just way too much “I’m going to put you down to lift me up.” There is just some of the most sickening things I’ve ever seen, putting down kids that are mentally challenged, right in front of them, trying to get them to swear. Or putting down people who there nose doesn’t look right or they have something wrong with their eyes. Just physical appearances, people put down a lot to lift themselves up. It creates this hatred and this discomfort between a lot of people. When I think, we are class of 2007, we should be like a family because we have grown up with each other, but there is always this lack of love and respect for each other. So I would increase respect and love.
Who is your hero?My hero? JPII is a big one. Right now, I would probably say my dad. I am here and I’m hearing that I am suppose to honor my parents. And knowing that my dad and my mom have to deal with me. And through what my dad’s been through with a manic depressive mother. And he lived with her in Detroit and he was going to schools that weren’t that good. And he’s been put in very uncomfortable situations. And just going through a school where seventy percent of the school don’t graduate and he did. He worked really hard at it and I really respect that. And I really respect how he helps me to be Catholic and puts me in the Church, even though he wasn’t. So it’s something important to him and I really respect that.
What do you want the people that read this article to pray for you about?I would ask everybody to pray for me to stop worrying about myself. I am always worried about the way I look and the things I wear. When it comes down to it, it’s because I want to impress the ladies really. I hope people would pray that I need more of a self-respect.
Will you pray for the people that read this article?Yeah.
What are you going to pray for them about?I will pray that they be good Christians and express our faith in a way that is loving and compassionate towards other people, the way Jesus would do it. I would pray that the Catholic church is not looked upon not as this church where if it feels good, stop. A church where people really look at the Church the way they did with John Paul II. A great Church has morals and history and a great goal in life. I would pray that we would express that.
