  • Is a converted Jew

Have you ever been in a fist fight?
I have not.

Have you come close?
I broke up one before.

Oh, really, did you get hit while you were breaking it up?
Not really.

I found that Catholicism is Judaism full circle.
How did that feel?
It felt good. The problem is though when you see a fist fight, a lot of people want to just crowd around and watch. It felt kind of weird that I felt good about it, but a lot of people were going like “awww…” after you break it up.

Do you have any broken bones?
No.

What are your hobbies?
I like to draw.

Like pen and ink or pencil?
Just pencil, like doodling and stuff.

Do you think you will major in art in college?
I doubt it. It’s just my thing to do in my past time.

What else besides drawing do you like to do?
Um, I go on the internet a lot. I mean, it’s not really a hobby.

Do you go to lifeteen.com?
I do go to lifeteen.com.

What’s your favorite section on lifeteen.com?
It’s hard to say. What I do enjoy is like going there everyday and you have like the news stories in the corner. I really enjoy those.

Is anything funny happen with your parish on the way here?
It was a three hour car ride, so it wasn’t very eventful.

Have you always been into your faith?
No, actually I used to be Jewish and my mother was Jewish and my father was Catholic and kind of fell away. And when I was around eight years old, we converted as a family.

Your mom included?
Yeah, our whole family is Catholic. And I didn’t get into it really until high school with the whole Lifeteen thing.

How do you have a different perspective on being Catholic with your Jewish heritage?
What I really enjoy is how much the Catholic faith is intertwined with the Jewish faith, more so than the Protestant faith. I found that Catholicism is Judaism full circle. And all the traditions that go along with it, it’s very rich. And if I wasn’t Catholic, and Jesus never existed, I would definitely be Jewish. It’s such a beautiful faith in itself.

What are your favorite bands right now?
I do enjoy the Bare Naked Ladies. I like Jack Johnson, Pete Yorn, and stuff like easy guitar…Matt Maher.

What’s been your most memorable experience here at Lifeteen Notre Dame?
I really enjoyed the Laugh Out Loud. That was great. I really enjoyed the Theology of the Body talk. I am really fascinated with Theology of the Body, so I really enjoyed that.

Do you ever think that God is calling you to be a priest?
Yeah, I actually went to the priest thing.

How did that work out?
It was great, I learned a lot. Like back at home, it’s different, sometimes you are the only one and you feel kind of alone. But when you come to something like this, with so many different people, like jocks, nerds, like all the kinds and they are all committed to Christ. And even thinking about becoming priests, it really helps you out.

Is there anything that you need people to pray for you about?
Just courage and sometimes I’m scared. Even though I may feel the call the be a priest, sometimes I am just scared to pray about it. Like “God, I want you to help me, but don’t help me right now.” I like my friends too much, while they are good people, I would rather hang out with them than God. I guess I could really use some help with that.

Would you commit to praying for the people that read this article?
Definitely.

What will be your prayer for them?
I hope that they can just come closer to God through Lifeteen and that the Lifeteen program grows with their help and their involvement.
