New Things on LIFETEEN.com
Regular visitors may have noticed some new things around the website. Here's the scoop on some fun new stuff:
- NewsBox – There are many new faces posting to the NewsBox on the home page. Most of these are familiar names who've contributed to the site before. Expect to hear more regional and local news of Catholic events. This upgrade means a lot to me because I can spend more time updating other sections on the site. :)
- Store – Shipping charges are lower! Before, there was a shipping charge added to every item. When you bought several items, the shipping charges got high. Now it's very simple: $5 shipping for the first item, $1 for each additional item. This way you can get more for your money.
Thank you all for your patience, prayers, and donations that have made these new features possible. - Teen Talk – Speaking of money, we spent a lot of it to make Teen Talk safer and easier-to-use. If you see a post that is mean-spirited or just stupid, you can click “Alert a Moderator of this Post”. This is one of several new moderator tools for us to make sure that dumb people don't interrupt our online community. (Most of the upgrades to Teen Talk you won't be able to see, but believe me, they are big and beautiful!)
- XLT – You can now download an MP3 of the teaching part of XLT. (We can't make the whole XLT down loadable, because that's illegal distribution of copywrited music.) Since this will mean we have to pay more for bandwidth, we are asking regular listeners to be registered before they can listen. I know sometimes registering on a website can be a hassle, but it's small way you can help us keep better records of who's hanging out on our website.
- Podcast on iTunes – We launched a podcast on iTunes called “Sunday Sunday Sunday” with the Bible Geek. Basically, it's an MP3 that you can download through iTunes for free every week. The podcast is a reflection on the Mass readings from the weekend coming up. It's an easy way to make Mass more interesting and rewarding. I want to thank Adam Robo for working so hard on getting this podcast off the ground. Since the beginning, he made quality a top priority. We use only the best recording equipment and editing tools. Get the podcast
- Reviews – We are now on a 5-star review system, with half-stars. Before, we were confined to awarding 1, 2, 3, or 4 stars. With the new system, our writers can help the reader better understand the value of a book, movie, video game, or CD. Speaking of writers, have you seen all the new people? In spring of this year, we asked visitors to the site to submit an application to become a contributing writer. So this new crop of writers we chosen out of those applicants. Over the next few weeks, you'll see some new writers who will become regular contributers. God is good.
We have a couple more upgrades coming this fall that we're really excited about, and you'll know when they hit. Thank you all for your patience, prayers, and donations that have made these new features possible. I hope every visitor can see that this website is an online community, and we're always growing and changing to better serve the community. It's a privilege to share a bit of our day together.
