Q: Is the Catholic Mass in the Bible?

The Catholic Mass (like we celebrate it today) has its roots not only in Scripture, but in traditions that go back for thousands of years before the Bible was even put together.

It’s a popular misconception that the Catholic Mass ‘isn’t very scriptural’, or that we ‘only have three readings.’ The truth is, that everything we say and do at Mass, from everything we read aloud, to every response we proclaim is either taken directly from Scripture, or is based on Sacred Scripture, along with Sacred Tradition.

It is SO scriptural, that if someone who had the Bible totally memorized sat in a Catholic Mass, they’d probably fall out of the pew. They’d be so amazed that they wouldn’t even be able to keep up…that’s how many direct Biblical allusions that there are in the Mass.
