Q: I know this isn't a Bible question, but i was hoping you could tell me who are the "Doctors of the Church"?
Well, you're right and wrong in saying that this isn't a Bible question.You're right because the Doctors of the Church are not listed in the Bible. I'd say "you're wrong" (sort of), however, in saying it's not a Bible question, for this reason...Not one of these saintly men or women would have attained such intimacy or depth with Christ on this earth, had it not been for prayer and both the Sacraments and Sacred Scripture. ...if you want to be a doctor, but you stink at science...there's hope for you, too!That is not to say that an illiterate person, for instance, could not come to know and love God. No, what I'm saying is that after studying the lives of every one of these incredible men and women - saints who were so wise in the wisdom of God that they were given the title of "doctor of the Church" - I can honestly tell you that every single one of them had a profound love for God and a strong love for His Living Word, Jesus, and the Incarnate Word, Sacred Scripture.There are only thirty three saints who have been declared a "Doctor of the Church (a distinguishable honor to say the least).
