2010 Camp Covecrest, Week 08 (Life Teen), Day 2
Day 2 of Covecrest started with Life Teen-ers playing games to get clues for their Mission Adventure. The afternoon was all about free time, from soccer to tye-dying to ultimate frisbee. After family dinner, Fr. Tom Rafferty celebrated Mass in the amphitheater, and a short time of Adoration followed. The week’s theme is “Behold the Mystery,” with host Gomer Gormley and musician Mikey Needleman.

2010 Camp New England, Week 01 (Edge), Day 2
Day two of Behold the Mystery summer camps was full of outside activities. In the morning, middle schoolers participated in a giant game of clue with a face lift. The new game was Mission Adventure and groups of middle schoolers had to complete different challenges to get the clues and try to solve the mystery. The afternoon brought free time where the kids could go hiking, make rosaries, play card games, soccer or Frisbee golf. After getting the middle schoolers got their energy out, they settled down for the night session centered on the mystery of the Eucharist with Mass and Adoration made possible by Fr. Tom Washburn. The middle schoolers enjoyed the company of host Kevin Hickey and musician John Hopke.

Gossip: Everyone Gets Hurt
We couldn't believe what she had worn, whom she had been seen with, what crazy thing she had done this time. There was always something to talk about when the subject was that girl from English class (no one ever remembers her name.) Exchanging shocked looks and harsh opinions of the juicy stories about her was good procrastination material before we focused again on the homework we were supposed to be doing. One of our friends cut in with, “Guys... she has a soul too you know.” Then, just as quick as the conversation had taken off, it came to a screeching halt.
We didn't mean to objectify anyone, to only see their exterior. We didn't mean to take away their dignity. We didn't mean to be nasty. But talking together we got carried away and the truth was, we sinned against our sister in Christ.

The Bible: Where Do I Start?
I meet tens of thousands of people a year at different events. Most of them are Catholic Christians who want to start reading the Bible but don’t know where to start. So if you’ve ever wanted to go deeper into God’s Word but haven’t known how to approach it, allow me to suggest a few tips (so you can learn from my mistakes).
Like anything else, if you want to build something – in this case, your knowledge and love for the Scriptures – you don’t just grab a hammer and some nails and start pounding. To ensure that you don’t just jump in and then quit out of frustration or confusion, there are certain things you can do to be more successful.
We’ll attack this on three levels – the tools, the blueprint and the construction. By the end you’ll have ten total steps to help you build your bodily temple into a Biblical fortress, able to resist anything the devil can throw at you.

2010 Camp New England, Week 01 (Edge), Day 1

Kevin Hickey, expert on Edge ministry, hosted the session and joined the campers in their activities such as minute-to-win-it games, praise and worship and the night obstacle course. John Hopke led the middle schoolers in praise and worship and dance parties, and along with Fr. Tom Washburn, OFM from Boston, helped throw water balloons at kids during the obstacle course.
